Erik Williams and his team were chosen three years ago by CareerWise Colorado to be the first rural community to institute a Modern Youth Apprenticeship program in Eagle County. This program, now in its third year, is being looked at around the nation as an example of both community partnerships and a cutting edge educational program. CareerWise Eagle County currently has 19 apprentices in place with more businesses signing on each year. Students are working towards careers in finance, construction, hotel management, non-profit development and more. Students are offered 3 year apprenticeships in local businesses where they will earn a wage, earn school credit, gain soft skills and finish with the knowledge to accept a “middle income” job at the conclusion. They are also able to take the credit and knowledge they have gained and apply to college should they choose. The program is designed as an “options multiplier” to help each student on their path. Erik and his team at the Vail Valley Partnership are only pulling this off with the incredible support of their strategic partners, Eagle County Schools, Colorado Mountain College, Youth Power 365 and the Colorado Workforce Center.

Erik Williams is the Director of Community Development for the Vail Valley Partnership. He works daily to bring community members and businesses together through the Vail Valley Works, NEXT programs, Power Groups and other community initiatives.
