Vail Health is excited to offer this opportunity for the Vail Valley Business Women and friends to hear from their Shaw Cancer Center team to help you learn ways to keep you healthy in 2024. We will have team members available to talk with you about nutrition, exercise, breast health and genetic counseling.

Additionally, you'll have the chance to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Shaw Cancer Center and tour the radiation area. This experience will provide insight into the post-mammogram process. Dr. Jinnah Phillips, a Breast Radiologist, will share firsthand what she examines in a scan and how she identifies signs of breast cancer in a woman's breast.

Our special guest speakers include:

Dr. Jinnah Phillips is a board-certified radiologist specializing in women's imaging. She is a graduate of the University of Utah School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), where she held the position of chief resident during her junior year. Dr. Phillips remained in Pittsburgh, and continued her training at UPMC Magee Women's Hospital, where she earned her fellowship in women's imaging. She is certified in the interpretation of digital 2D and 3D (tomosynthesis) mammography. If interested in making an appointment, please call 970-569-7690.

Dr. Erin Schwab leads the cancer care team at Dillon Health Center as the oncologist and hematologist. Dr. Schwab is a graduate of Michigan State University. She completed her residency at Loyola University Medical Center and her fellowship at University of California. She has specialized focus in Gastrointestinal and Breast Cancers. She joins us from Michigan, where she and her husband have been raising their three sons. If interested in making an appointment, please call 970-569-7429.

Peyton Nunley, MS, CGC The Shaw Cancer Center offers hereditary cancer genetic counseling services Monday through Friday via telehealth and in-person visits. Peyton works with patients to review their personal and family history of cancer, discuss the risk of a hereditary cause for cancer in the family, and provides education on hereditary cancer syndromes and genetic testing. She provides personalized screening recommendations based on personal and family history of cancer (or risk factors) and genetic testing results. For questions, please contact Peyton at (970) 569-7669 or cancergenetics@vailhealth.org.

Sarah Giovagnoli, MS Fit for Survival is Shaw’s on-site oncology rehab gym, open Monday through Thursday. Exercise physiologist Sarah Giovagnoli meets with patients, during, or post treatment, to design customized exercise programs that meet individual’s needs and goals. Participants in Fit for Survival are instructed in aerobic conditioning, strength training, range of motion and balance exercises to increase fitness, minimize symptoms of treatment, and promote overall well-being.

Melanie Hendershott, RDN, CSO Nutrition plays a vital role in helping cancer patients during treatment. Melaine Hendershott is one of our Spirit of Survival registered dietitian. Patients in our survivorship program work with our dietitians to create individualized nutrition plans, learn how to prepare quick and healthy meals, and maintain a healthy body composition during treatment. Good nutrition can help maintain energy and strength, reduce the risk of infection, improve tolerance to side-effects, and promote healing and recovery.

Vickie Zacher RT (R)(M)(BS) is the Supervisor over the Breast Imaging Centers. She has worked in health care for 31 years. Breast imaging can detect cancer before there are signs or symptoms of the disease. Detecting cancer in the early stage plays a pivotal role in treating the cancer. We accept appointments Monday through Friday 7:45 to 5:30.
